ARCHIRODON was established in 1959 as a J.V. of the Greek firms ARCHIMEDES, Greece’s foremost marine contractor at that time, and ODON & ODOSTROMATON, a road construction specialist group. Soon, the J/V started its construction activity by building the ports of Benghazi in Libya (1961) and subsequently the port of Beirut in Lebanon (1963). The J.V.’s success soon led to its development into a major contractor in its own merit, establishing itself in 1971 as
Archirodon Construction (Overseas) Co. S.A.
Under sound management, a dedicated professional staff and the quality and reliability of its work, the company further developed expanding its operations initially in Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. and subsequently in other Gulf countries, North Africa and the Mediterranean area. Among its early projects had been the construction of the multi-million dollar seaports of Jeddah and Dammam and other major ports in Saudi Arabia, three ports in the United Arab Emirates, and a host of other important marine works.
In the 1980s and 1990s Archirodon, while still upholding its reputation as one of the top marine contractors internationally, further developed into a general contracting group diversifying into other fields including, roads, bridges, railroads, industrial facilities, power, water and sanitation, oil and gas, dredging and reclamation as well as electromechanical and geotechnical works.
At present Archirodon Group N.V., registered in the Netherlands, is the legal parent of Archirodon Group Companies which have established offices and branches and/or project sites in Greece, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Singapore and U.S.A.
Among Archirodon’s major projects are marine jetties for oil and LNG unloading facilities, petrochemical and other berths in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Egypt as well as dredging and shore protection, etc. Additionally container terminals and other port construction works had been carried out in Oman, Cyprus, Dubai, UAE and Egypt while major bridges had been constructed in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Noteworthy project experience includes our major involvement as leader in the consortium for the prestigious Khalifa Port now under construction in Abu Dhabi as well as the execution of all civil infrastructure and electromechanical works for the 14X370 MW Shoaiba Steam Power Plant in Saudi Arabia.
Further to its core construction activities, the Company has also recently established an in-house Engineering Department which handles a significant portion of engineering work required for its projects.
Archirodon is registered by TUV CERT under ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 quality, health, safety and environmental standards and has a staff of over 13,500.
