Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM–Q) offers students a unique opportunity to obtain a world-class medical education in Qatar for the first time. Established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University in the US and QF, WCM–Q is part of Weill Cornell Medicine in New York and this is the first time their MD degree course has been offered outside the US.
WCM–Q’s facilities include the first Clinical Skills Assessment Centre in the region, allowing students to learn in a real-life setting. As part of the medical curriculum, students are exposed to patients and clinical training from day one, continuing until graduation. Teaching is by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty as well as physicians at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Aspetar who hold Weill Cornell appointments.
WCM–Q is also part of a major initiative that has established a world-class biomedical research programme in Qatar, the first of its kind in the Middle East. The programme is creating a biomedical research infrastructure and developing a scientific and technical workforce for the benefit of the region. It also involves high quality research in the fields of genetic and molecular medicine, women’s and children’s health, gene therapy and stem cells.
Students have exciting opportunities to participate in advanced research, both in Qatar and overseas. The Summer Research Program enables selected students to travel to the US and work under the mentorship of leading investigators at Cornell and Weill Cornell. Meanwhile, a growing number of students are also participating in projects in Qatar, guided by WCM–Q faculty and funded by the Undergraduate Research Experience Program of Qatar National Research Fund.
Working in close partnership with QF and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, WCM–Q is involved in the planning of Sidra Medical and Research Center – designed to be one of the most technologically advanced academic medical centres in the world.
TheUniversity of Calgary - Qatar (UCQ)has been raising the profile of professional nursing through educating the future nurse leaders to take their places at the forefront of Qatar's world class health care system. Sponsored by the State of Qatar, UCQ offers Qatari nationals and Qatar residents university training in all aspects of professional nursing in compliance with the same rigorous international standards applied at the Faculty of Nursing of at the University of Calgary in Canada. UCQ offers a Bachelor of Nursing Degree Program, a Post-Diploma program, a Diploma Program designed for nurses already working in the Qatar healthcare system, and a Foundation Program, and a Master of Nursing degree in Oncology.
